The tale of two prime ministers

Photo: ClareSnow/FlickrOne of the most commonly raised excuses for not voting in the European Parliament elections in “small” countries (i.e. not major powers) – such as Hungary – is a sort of inferiority complex. That is, our votes, and our small number of MEP delegates will not be able to achieve much, and the most important issues do not even pass through the EP anyway. However, news of the last few months may prove these two points wrong (partly, at least): small countries can have an impact on the European agenda, and so does the EP.

The 2010-2011 SP-BE-HU presidency logo selection has started

The Spanish, Belgian and Hungarian prime ministers will make public the winner only in the end of 2009. Each countries has invited young artists to a competiton to create a trio presidency logo that expresses the cooperation of the three memberstates, has a european message. On other hand it should be simple, easy-use, and should be printable both in color and in blackandwhite. In Hungary the 10th logo of the Hungarian proposal were selected by an on-line vote of the citizens.

Gas, naturally

Source: www.gazpiac.huEverybody knew it was coming, but nobody could imagine the extent of the current gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine , especially the dire consequences it would bring to consumers in Central and South-East Europe. Fortunately, due to its substantial gas storages, its own production and imports from Western neighbours, Hungary turned out to be the better prepared among the group most affected by the gas supply cut-off. Now, following almost two weeks after the crisis began the end is nowhere in sight, but some lessons can already be drawn about the future of energy politics in Europe and beyond.
