Five years: a story without (happy) ending

Five years ago, on 1st May 2004 ten countries – included Hungary – celebrated the day of joining the European Union. Most of the people had big expectations and many of them were sceptics already but they had something in common: lot of questions related to our European future, to our place in European Union and to our European life. No doubt, “Europe is our playground” – but how did Hungary play? Outside broadcast.

EC saved MOL from hostile takeover by OMV

OMV has scrapped its plan to acquire MOL and withdrawn its intention to make a $23 billion, Ft 32,000 per share bid to shareholders. OMV noted that the European Commission had issued a Statement of Objections outlining its concerns regarding OMV's potential merger with MOL, which were viewed as a hostile takeover by MOL. Brussels said in July "The merger would remove MOL as the most significant regional constraint on OMV, and at the same time, remove OMV as the most significant constraint on MOL."

Hungarian police deny "leaky" border alleged by Austrian DefMin

Border patrols by the Austrian army continue despite Hungary’s accession to the Schengen zone. ”Hungarian guards do not always carry out checks with sufficient rigour along the Ukrainian border, as the ethnic Hungarian minority there does not want another Iron Curtain,” outgoing Austrian Defence Minister Norbert Darabos told reporters.
