The building where I have been living in for one and a half year is 20 metres from a selective waste collection point and therefore I am pretty lucky that I do not have to walk far away to find a decent place to deposit my pre-selected household waste. The district where this building is located is quite environmentally friendly. Újbuda has the first 'eco blocks-of-flats' in Gazdagrét.

Hungary’s 1st smog alert is in force since Sunday morning in Budapest
Sunday morning Gábor Demszky Budapest’s lord mayor had alert a smog alarm for the first time in the country’s history. His step became necessary because the daily average concentration of suspended dust exceeded the limit of 100 micrograms per cubic meter for two days in a row. Owing to the threshold limits determined by a new law having entered into force October last year it seems that people living in Budapest must get used to car traffic restrictions both in summer and winter time.

First Hungarian-Austrian water quality test completed on Raba river

Despite the changes in leadership at the Hungarian Ministry of Environment and Water Protection the bilateral negotiations regarding the foaming of the river Raba, which has for long been a dispute between Hungary and Austria, are seems to remain on the right track.
The first comprehensive test initiated by Hungary and conducted jointly by Hungarian and Austrian experts on the water quality of the river Raba has been completed and shows that the concentration of pollutants is higher on the Austrian side due to the activities of local tanning facilities.

World Science Forum in Budapest
The World Science Forum, a three-day conference entitled "Investing in Knowledge: Investing in the Future", is opened at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). The World Science Forum, being held for the third time in Budapest, is host to 400 scientists and scholars from over 60 countries, as well as senior political decision makers. The prestigious event is jointly organised by the MTA, UNESCO, the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the European Union.
